Health & Safety Policy Statement
This is the Health and Safety policy statement of Sparklers Pre-School.
Part 1: Statement of Intent
Our Health and Safety Policy is to:
Prevent accidents and cases of work related ill health
Manage health and safety risks in our preschool
Provide information and adequate training to ensure employees are competent to do their work
Provide personal protective equipment
Provide and maintain safe play areas and equipment
Ensure safe handling and use of substances
Implement emergency procedures including evacuation in case of fire or incident
Review and revise this policy regularly
Part 2: Responsibilities for Health and Safety
Overall and final responsibility for health and safety: Chair of Committee
Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practice: Pre-School Supervisor
To ensure Health and Safety standards are maintained/improved, the following people have responsibility: All staff on duty
All employees should:
co-operate with supervisors and managers on health and safety matters;
take reasonable care of their own health and safety; and
report all health and safety concerns to an appropriate person (as detailed above).
Part 3: Arrangements for Health and Safety
Risk Assessment
We complete relevant risk assessments and take action
We will review risk assessments when working habits or conditions change
All staff will read and sign to say they've understood risk assessments
Risk assessments are published on our website for parents / visitors to see
We ensure that any blind cords are secured safely and do not pose strangulation risk for young children.
Training
* All staff will undertake early years level 2 health and safety training.
* All staff ensure all resources are stored or stacked safely to prevent them accidentally falling or collapsing.
* We provide safe equipment for adults to use when they need to reach up to store equipment / change displays. Staff are encouraged to use this equipment.
Consultation
* Health and safety policy reviews, risk assessments reviews and any health and safety issues will be discussed formally at staff meetings and informally as they arise.
* We explain some health and safety issues to the parents of new children, so that they understand the part played by these issues in the daily life of the setting.
* We make children aware of health and safety issues through discussions, planned activities, routines and our golden rules.
Evacuation
* All escape routes are well signed and kept clear at all times.
* Evacuation plans are tested regularly, recorded and updated if necessary.
* We operate a no-smoking policy.
